Doctor Livingstone, I presume? Yes, it felt just that absurd when we discovered a family with Swedish roots growing cacao in Madagascar’s Sambirano Valley. This cocoa takes you on a tropical voyage of discovery through the tart aromas of yellow berries and raisins, followed by a robust cocoa flavour.

Off the coast of Mozambique lies Madagascar, the world’s fourth largest island, and home to Swedish descendants the Åkessons, who cultivate cacao using the finest traditions. Once the beans have been harvested and dried, they’re shipped home to us in Malmö in giant sacks. We roast them gently to preserve all their tropical flavours. It’s crazy, really: Swedes farming cacao down on Madagascar and Swedes roasting it up here in Malmö. We had no idea chocolate could be such a Nordic affair!
